SHALYA TANTRA

WHAT IS SHALYA TANTRA?

The term “Shalya” refers to “foreign body” or “improper object” and “tantra” refers to a systematic approach or a methodology. Shalya tantra is also known as “Shalakya tantra”. The primary goal of Shalya tantra is to cure diseases or conditions that cannot be treated with medicines or other non-invasive therapies. It involves the use of surgical techniques to remove tumors, cysts, and other growths, as well as to repair damaged tissues and organs. Shalya tantra is also used to treat injuries, fractures, and other traumatic conditions.

According to Sushruta, Shalya tantra is best suited, when the problem is beyond just medicinal repair.
